How it works
Vocabulary is automatically displayed on your Apple Watch, or your iPhone home screen or lock screen. Words regularly change and repeat in a smart way until you remember them.
Smart Repetition
Our algorithm knows what word to show you next and you'll get exposed to each word multiple times.
Passive Learning
No study sessions to schedule. Just use your watch and phone normally and notice how you naturally absorb vocabulary day after day.

Frequently asked questions
Is Watch Your Language free?
Yes. The app is free to download on the App Store and comes with themed word packs from A1 to C2. Premium unlocks every pack, unlimited words, and importing your own word lists.
Can you learn a language on an Apple Watch?
You can learn vocabulary on one. A watch face is glanced at many times a day, and each glance is a few seconds with one word. It is not the place for grammar lessons or conversation, so pair it with a course or a tutor for those.
Do I need an Apple Watch?
No. On iPhone alone, the words appear in widgets on your Lock Screen and Home Screen. With an Apple Watch, they also appear in a complication on your watch face, and both work on the same list.
Which languages can I learn?
Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Polish, Ukrainian, Greek, Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Bengali, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Tagalog and English, as well as Latin and Esperanto. Translations are shown in the language you choose.
Which devices does it work on?
iPhone with iOS 18 or later, and Apple Watch with watchOS 10 or later. The watch is optional.
How do I get started?
Download the app, choose the language you want to learn and your level, and pick a few themed packs. Then add a widget to your Lock Screen, or a complication to your watch face. The words start appearing straight away.
How does the app decide which word to show?
It uses spaced repetition: words you keep forgetting come back sooner, and words you know come back less often. You decide how fast new words join the rotation, from one every few minutes to one a week.
Can I import my own word list?
Yes, with Premium. Import a CSV or Excel file with two columns, paste a Google Sheets link, or take a photo of your notes or a textbook page. The app shows you the words before they are added.
Does it work for Japanese, Chinese or Korean?
Yes. For languages written in another script, the widget can also show the romanization, and you can switch it off once you read the script.
How is it different from Duolingo?
Duolingo is a course you open for lessons. Watch Your Language needs no sessions: vocabulary comes to the screens you already look at. Many people use both, a course for grammar and Watch Your Language for the words.
