This Privacy Policy explains what information the Watch Your Language app ("the App"), provided by Nodixo, collects, why, and who it is shared with. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you do not agree, please refrain from using the App.
1. Data Stored on Your Device
Your vocabulary lists, learning progress, scores, and app settings are stored on your iPhone and Apple Watch, in Apple's App Group container, which only the App and its extensions (widgets and complications) can access. We do not receive a copy of this data.
2. Data We Collect
Some features need our server. When you use them, we process the following:
- App identifier: the App uses Apple's App Attest service to confirm that requests come from a genuine copy of the App. This creates a random identifier for your installation, which is not linked to your name or Apple Account.
- Usage counts: for the AI image import and translation features, we store how many requests your installation has made, to apply fair-use limits. For translations, we store the count, not the text.
- Subscription records: when you start, renew, or cancel a subscription, we store the transaction identifiers Apple provides, the product, the dates, and the renewal status. We use them to manage your subscription and to understand how subscriptions perform, and we link them to your analytics identifier (see section 3) so that renewals and cancellations appear in our analytics. We never receive your payment details.
- Messages you send us: if you contact us from the App, we receive your message, the reply email address you choose to give, your app identifier, and technical details about your device and Apple Watch connection, to help us answer and troubleshoot.
- AI image import: when you import words from a photo, we may store the photo, the instructions sent to the AI service, its answer, and technical details (such as the languages, the image size, and how long the request took). We use them to make the feature work and to fix and improve it, on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving the App. When we store them, we do so without your app identifier, so they are not linked to you or your device.
- Language requests: if you ask for a new language to be added, we store the language, whether you have an Apple Watch, your device language, and the email address you choose to give so we can tell you when it is available.
- Promo codes: when you redeem a promo code, we use your IP address to limit repeated attempts and prevent abuse.
3. Analytics
We collect usage data, such as app launches, the screens and features you use, and the words from the App's built-in list you interact with, to understand how the App is used and to improve it. This data is linked to a random identifier, not to your name, email address, or Apple Account. It is processed by PostHog on servers in the European Union. We process it on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving the App. You can object or ask for this data to be deleted by writing to [email protected].
4. Third-Party Services
We share data with the following services, only as needed for the features described. If you are in the European Union, please note that some of these services may process data outside the EU. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Apple: subscriptions are purchased and processed through the App Store, and App Attest verifies the App. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
- PostHog: analytics, as described in section 3. See PostHog's Privacy Policy.
- AI service providers (optional): if you use the AI image import feature, the photo you choose is sent to AI service providers to extract the words in it.
- Translation service (optional): when you ask the App to translate a word you entered, the text is sent to a translation service provider.
- Amazon Web Services: delivers the messages and language requests you send us to our inbox. See AWS's Privacy Notice.
5. iPhone and Apple Watch Synchronization
Your words and progress are synchronized between your iPhone and Apple Watch using Apple's WatchConnectivity framework. This data goes directly between your devices through Apple's systems; we do not receive it.
6. Data Retention
Data on your device stays there until you delete it or remove the App. We keep the data on our server only as long as we need it for the purposes above, and delete it on request.
7. Your Rights
You can delete your words and reset your learning progress at any time in the App's settings. To access, correct, or delete the data we hold on our server or in our analytics, or to object to its processing, write to [email protected]. If you are in the European Union, you can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the "Last updated" date at the top.
